Self drilling screws and thread cutting screws have a pointed tip that drills a hole in the material as the screw is turned. Meanwhile, thread forming screws have a blunt tip that displaces the material as the screw is turned. Thread rolling screws have a flat tip that rolls the material as the screw is turned.
